Well it was a wild and wacky weekend full of colds and flu for the Novice Black. Saturday we were hit hard with 3 defence gone, and one forward not feeling 100%, but we took it in stride and made some adjustments and everyone worked incredibly hard.
First time net minder
Taylor was making save after save, while the team in front of him was giving it
their all, shift after shift. Although we lost, 15 – 0, not one player
complained or had a sour expression. They kept smiling and never gave up,
although coach Brian did punch me in the forehead which he said was accidental,
but the jury is still out on that one. Tyler making his debut on defence,
looking more like a young Bobby Orr, earned him the hard worker
hat. Watching our players go out shift after shift with the attitude they
did, in a game like that, makes a coach pretty proud of the team he’s
got. Excellent job guys!!
Sunday we were back at it with only 1 player still down and
out with the flu. With the previous day’s game behind us, our Preds were
on the mend and ready to go. We came out strong and were battling hard for
every loose puck, and took the early lead, but Strathroy responded with a quick
one of their own, and then another to take the lead. It remained this way
till half way through the second when Strathroy got a third, but, just as they
did to us earlier in the game we did the same, and responded with our second of
the game. The rest of the game was filled with chance after chance, and
end to end action, but in the end it was Strathroy who won the game Final Score
was Preds 2 – Strathroy 6?? Worker of the game went to Rayna, who also
made a delicious batch of post game cupcakes. Both goals were scored by
Brent.
