Home Struggles Continue
Friday night the Lambton Shores Novice Predators had a home date with the Lucan Irish, hoping they would have a little luck breaking their home losing streak. The game started out well with the Preds applying some early pressure and taking it to the visitors from Lucan. After several scoring chances, the Preds broke through when Ben" Crazy Legs" George notched his 4th of the year on a scramble in front of the net. Adam"Tich" Tichenoff assisted on the play, which was a good example of what happens when you go to the net and don't let up until you hear a whistle.

At the end of one period the Pred held a one goal lead and had carried most of the play. The second was more of the same with the Preds handling the play but the Irish woke up and started to fight back. Lucan was able to sneak 2 past Ethan "Pipes" Everaert in the second frame but it was still anyone's game heading into the third.
Lucan scored 9 seconds into the 3rd period on a play that looked like the Preds were unaware the period had started. The Irish player won the faceoff cleanly, skated away from all three forwards and passed by the defence like they were turnstiles at the county fair. That goal seemed to take the wind out of the Pred sails and Lucan dominated the rest of the game adding 3 more goals.
There were some positives to take from the game and some lessons learned. We played with a strong team for 2 periods and drove hard to the net in the one goal we did get. We also protected our goalie when a Lucan player was getting too aggressive after the play and Ryan "the Bull" Vaughan stepped up to send the message when the refs failed to make the call. The lesson learned was that we have to play all 3 periods in these games, especially when playing teams with the talent that Lucan has.
Hayley "Comet" Millar earned the Hard Hat on this night for Pred of the game for her hard work and tenacious defence.
The Preds schedule gets busy now as we have 7 games and 6 practices over the next few weeks leading up to our first tournament of the year.
