Good morning,

 

A reminder to all user groups that as stated in our Parks and Facilities By-Law and the Smoke-Free Ontario Act, 2017 (SFOA, 2017) that no person shall smoke, vape or hold lighted tobacco or cannabis or related inhalation products in any form in a park or facility.

This is also stated in the contract that was signed at the beginning of the season:

 

Section 14.
It is illegal to smoke or hold lighted tobacco or cannabis, and vape any substance at all indoor public locations, and:

  • All sports fields, spectator areas and playgrounds, plus a 20m perimeter
  • All recreation centre property, plus a 20m perimeter
  • Restaurant and bar patios, plus a 9m perimeter
  • All school property, plus a 20m perimeter
  • All hospital property

Compliance to this legislation is mandatory.  Those individuals not in compliance may be asked to leave the property and can be charged and if convicted can be fined up to $1,000 (for a first offence) or $5,000 (for any further offence). 

Failure to comply may also result in the user group being temporarily suspended from the facility

 

The Municipality could also fine the person $150 for the infraction.

 

We are aware that the season is coming to an end, however, a reminder to your members would be appreciated.
