Atom Black Tournament Champions
On January 24-26 our Lambton Shores Predators LL Black team competed in the Henderson Pharmacy Local League tournament hosted by the Thorold Minor Hockey Association Blackhawks.
Our team played a solid four round robin games and ended up with 2 wins and 2 close losses to finish in third place overall. This put them into the semi-final Sunday morning against Dorchester Dragons who had defeated us 3-1 in the round robin. Not to be denied our team came out flying at Dorchester taking a quick 2-0 lead and adding another 3 in the second. The final score was a convincing 6-0 shutout propelling the Predators into finals against the host Thorold Pine Street Dental Blackhawks. Our Predators took this momentum and never looked back in the finals. After many scoring opportunities in the first period Arie Roelands broke through with 2:18 left in the first. Ben Willemse capped off the first period with 2 goals of his own 6 seconds apart sending the momentum clearly in the Predators favour. Defensively, Bella George, Avery Titus, Martin Moran, Jack Willemse, Matthew Willsie and goalie Graer Richardson frustrated the Blackhawks forwards with very strong play in our own end by keeping shots to the outside and making smart plays to get the puck to our own forwards. If they did happen to break down our defenses Graer Richardson shut the door every time the Blackhawks came knocking. The final score of the game was 7-0 Predators, another shutout. Statistically speaking this group performed exceptionally well going 4-2 through the tournament scoring 29 goals for and only giving up 8 all tournament. This was a great tournament for all players and the coaches would agree that every single member of this fine hockey club gave 100% to help earn our gold medals and memories that they will carry with them throughout their playing careers. CONGRATULATIONS ATOM BLACK!!!!!!
